Humanity's Spiritual Crisis is an ebook-only edition of the last of Paul Brunton's early books, The Spiritual Crisis of Man. Perhaps even more timely now than when it was first published, it shows how the nature of today's widespread, confusing, and many-layered crisis is essentially a spiritual one—and the major step forward in our evolution as a species we are being called to. He provides a deeply informed framework of spiritual understanding and practices that help us find the most effective and creative ways to address these momentous situations in our daily lives.
Brunton wrote, “I had been allowed a peep behind the curtain of world events, behind the present pattern of the human scene on this planet, and there was a real necessity for knowledge of it, if all of us were not to go down into the gravest catastrophe. The population explosion, the poisoned environment, and the poisoned mental and emotional climate—the crisis I alluded to in The Spiritual Crisis of Man has not only worsened but spread everywhere.”
Humanity's Spiritual Crisis makes a case that we cannot build a new and better world until we have looked within, found the soul's light to guide us, made unavoidable inner changes, and learned to hear and follow intuition as a better guide than intellect alone. We may consciously co-operate with the inner purpose of this crisis and intelligently participate in it to our own benefit. If, however, we blindly resist or lazily delay, we will suffer the otherewise avoidable consequences.

Paul Brunton helps us hear the melody behind the medley of today's "spiritual marketplace." His late writings raise the bar for what we can expect of spiritual teachings and teachers, and what we can do for ourselves. Born in London in 1898, he soon became a leading pioneer of much of what we now take for granted. He traveled widely throughout the world (long before it was fashionable) to meet living masters of various traditions with whom he then lived and studied. His eleven early books from 1934–1952 shared much of what he learned, and helped set the stage for dramatic east-west exchanges of the late 20th century. Paul Brunton left more than 10,000 pages of enormously helpful new work in notebooks he reserved for posthumous publication, much of which is now available as The Notebooks of Paul Brunton.
